Exciting news! After months of organisation & planning, we finally have a location for our local community garden and growing space in West Sussex. The sun was bright and warm for us on Sunday for our official volunteer opening session at Hobbs Community Garden
We've had an amazing response from the local community who are interested in joining and supporting the garden. Thanks to everyone who came along today, it was lovely to meet those interested and talk through ideas and goals for the space.
It's still very early on in the project, so the winter months will include tidying up, fixing up the structure and fencing and planning out the layout for the year ahead.
We aim to include:
- varying growing areas,
- social seating areas,
- raised beds for elderly members,
- a wildlife pond,
- healing herb area,
- compost area,
- seed prep zone,
- a new greenhouse,
- hot drinks & picnic areas,
- new paths,
- climber archways.
Thanks to all those who have shared inspiration and conversations over the past year, with lots of advice from Stanmer Organics The RHS, Clitterhouse farm & Bankside Open Spaces Trust on community gardens.
Also thanks to Mark from Garden Build for the support and contribution of materials for the upgraded garden space, and for showing us the Community Garden in London connected to the Garden Museum.
Looking forward to the next visit to get going on our long to do list, as well as working through funding options to help support the running of the garden.
